“She is awesome.” He sighed at his deck, his chin rested on his hand.

Gilbert was currently starring at the (hair colored) girl three rows in front of him and his two friends, Francis and Antonio.  This was a normal occurrence during class.  From the moment she walked into class on the first day of school, he was taken with her.  She had gotten lost when trying to find the classroom and walked in a few minutes after the bell.  She was then assigned the empty seat three rows ahead of him.

“So why don’t you tell her that?” Francis asked, crossing his arms against his chest.

Gilbert frowned and looked at his friend out of the corner of his ruby red eye.  “She already knows, duh.” He said, making an excuse to not say something to her.

“He just scared to approach her.” Antonio said, poking Gilberts cheek with a pencil.  The albino looked at him, rolling his eyes.

“I’m not scared.” He mumbled, turning his gaze turned back to the (color) eyed girl in front of him.  She really was beautiful.

Francis laughed a bit, “You should ask her to prom.” He suggested.

Gilbert straightened up, his eyes wide.  Of course!  Why hadn’t he thought about that sooner?  He could just walk up to her and say “hey, are you going to prom?” and if she said yes then he’d say “who’s the lucky guy taking you?” and hopefully she’d say no one.  Yes, that was a good plan.  He’d do it.

Maybe in a thousand years.

“Yeah.” He said, perking up a bit, “Yeah, I’ll do that.”

After school, Gilbert and his friends were surrounded by their usual band of fangirls.  He tried to seem like he didn’t have anything on his mind, which he was fairly successful at.  The front entrance to the school opened and (Name) walked out.  She held onto her backpack tightly as she made her way down the walk way, with her head down.   Her (length) hair was flowing behind her as she did.  Gilbert pushed his way through the crowd and over to her.

“(Name)!” he said, beginning to jog.  Her head popped up and she watched him approach her with wide (color) eyes.  “Hey.” He greeted when he reached her.

She pushed her hair behind her ears.  “Hi.”

“So, I was wondering” Gilbert said, looking down at the ground, “are you going to prom?”

“Yeah.” She said, pushing her backpack higher on her shoulder.  “Yeah maybe.  I might just stay home and watch tv.  Why?”

He looked back at her.  “Well, I was thinking maybe… we could o together?”

She looked up at him with a straight face.  (Name) sighed and looked away.  “How much are you getting for doing this?”

“What?”

“You’re friends.” She said, “They dared you to ask me out didn’t they?”

He shook his head, “What, no.  I want to go to prom with you.”

She frowned.  “Fine.  Give me your phone for a second.”

Gilbert fished in his pocket for his phone as fast as he could and handed it to her.  (Name) wasn’t usually like this around him.  But maybe she honestly thought he was asking her out as a joke or something.  The possibility of her thinking that never occurred to him.  She pressed a few buttons and handed him her phone back.

(Name)
(Phone number)

She looked up at him and gave him a weak smile.  “Text me.” (Name) said

He smiled widely at her, “Yeah, yeah I will.”

She quickly walked away and in the direction of her house, leaving Gilbert glued to his spot, watching her walk away.  She was gorgeous.  And the sass she gave him just made her even more beautiful.  Most of the girls at school kissed the ground he walked on (literally sometimes).  (Name) didn’t seem to take shit from anyone.

As soon as she turned the corner he took out his phone and texted her.

Gilbert: Hey
(Name): Hey wow you didn’t wait at all did you?
Gilbert: I waited until I couldn’t see you
(Name): Right… so what’s up?

They texted all night.  Even when Gilbert was at Antonio’s house with Francis and Antonio’s friend, Lovino.  Gilbert sat down on the couch and went right back to texting her, not even bothering to take of his jacket.  On the way there he bumped into a few things, and people.  She was so funny and smart and beautiful and talented and everything he could have ever hoped for.

(Name): So do you actually want to go to prom with me?
Gilbert: Of course
(Name): You’re not messing with me?
Gilbert: Absolutely not
(Name): Damn, not I have to go dress shopping.  Thanks a bunch
Gilbert: Haha sorry
(Name): I’m kidding, I’m glad you actually want to go with me 
Gilbert: How could I not.  You’re beautiful
(Name): Thank you Gilbert

The night of prom, Gilbert was wearing just some dress pants, a white button down, and a suit jacket slung over his shoulder.  He walked up the walkway to the address (Name) had given him.  He nervously knocked on the door, which was opened by a woman in her thirties with the same colored hair as (Name).  She happily let him in and called up the stairs for (Name) to come down.  She then turned around and smiled at him.

“(Name’s) told me so much about you.” She said, directing him to sit down, which he did.  “She said ‘someone as handsome as you wouldn’t actually ask her out’.”

“Mom!” she shouted from upstairs.  “I told you not to tell him that!”

Her mom smiled a bit.  “Oh she’s so nervous.” She said, “She’s been getting ready forever.”

“Okay, I’m coming down so you’ll stop talking.” (Name) called, hurriedly coming down the stairs.

She was wearing a floor length black strapless dress.  There was a slight shimmer in the silky fabric she wore.  She was holding a pair of black pumps that seemed to be about five inches.  Her hair was tied up in a very complicated bun.  Her make up was perfect.  She had gold eye shadow, black winged eyeliner, and red lipstick.  She was flawless.

She looked over at him, her lips turning up in a slight smile.  “Why are you looking at me like that?” she asked

“Because you look beautiful.” Both Gilbert and her mother said.  Her mother sort of yelled it, clapping her hands together and running over to hug her daughter.  Gilbert said it in a breathless voice, slowly standing up and slipping his hands in his pockets.

“Thank you, Gilbert.” She said, blushing and managing to squirm out of her mothers grip.  “We should, uh, get going.” She said

“Yeah, okay.” He said goodbye to his mother and handed (Name) his suit jacker to wear in the cold while he did the typical man “no I’m not cold” thing.

When they got in the car, she leaned over and kissed his cheek lightly.  “I’m glad you we’re being serious.”
